The original inks are by Kamome Shirahama. Speech bubbles are blank out of consideration for the artist and publishers. Please consider purchasing the series if it looks interesting!
I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again— I adore Shirahama’s inks. They’re a cross between classic fairytale illustrations and manga styles. So when I decided to challenge myself to color an entire chapter to practice continuity they were the obvious choice.
This project is still ongoing and I’ll add pages as I complete them. This is very much an exercise in color consistency and keeping track of how long a page takes to color start to finish. Right now I’m between 2.5 - 3 hours on average per page, with flats taking about an hour total. The complexity of the page affects the time spent as well as any experimentation on my part. I find the shading and highlights actually goes the fastest.
I’m still trying to find a good solution for the partial backgrounds where Shirahama makes reference to elements of the room and furniture, but leaves the lines open ended. I love how it looks in the inks but it does make defining areas with color a challenge.
