Inks are not mine.
I’ve been itching to color this page for a while now. I knew that I wanted to use the light in Batman’s hand as both the light and color source for the largest panel. To avoid muddying the colors, I kept to a limited palette. I used about a dozen colors in total, split between the initial colors and shadows/highlights. I really wanted to show how a bright colored light can wash out the colors around it.
I found that blocking in the highlights presented the same challenge that spot blacks do. There was a lot of back and forth to find the right balance, but I’m happy with the end result.
I may revisit this in the future to try tweaking how the light is cast on different surfaces or to work with a more natural palette.
